REAPER & SHADE: the late-game target-separation check

REAPER & SHADE is a late-game duo encounter and one of the Steam community's more debated fights. Two targets and overlapping pressure create the problem; a thread titled 'Reaper and Shade fight needs work' reflects that concern. This page focuses on target separation and a low-risk clearing plan rather than inventing a perfect answer.

Full-release hands-on:REAPER & SHADE is the late-game duo encounter; Steam achievement unlock rate was roughly 16.4% in the recorded snapshot.
Hands-on notes:Community reports and the Steam forum thread corroborate the target-separation problem.
Release-day check:Exact per-target moves, aggro behavior and full-release tuning still need structured capture.

The target-separation problem

  • The core failure mode is attacking both at once — pick one and commit to the isolation plan.
  • Reaper and Shade have different attack patterns. Watch one full cycle from a safe corner before spending Resonance.
  • Charge Attack and ranged Soul Arts are the cleanest way to damage one without pulling the other.
  • Dodge laterally, not through the pair. Running through the middle of the arena is where most attempts die.
  • If the fight becomes a health trade, disengage and reset. Duo fights are won across multiple clean engagements, not one all-in attempt.

A low-risk clearing plan

  • Start by focusing the target with the slower pressure. Do not chase the faster one.
  • Use the arena geometry — pillars, walls and height changes — to block line-of-sight to the non-target.
  • After the first target falls, the second's pressure often shifts. Re-learn the spacing before committing to a long string.
  • Keep heals for after the first target is down; most deaths happen in the transition, not the final 1v1.
  • If you have a Ghost Summon that creates space (KIRA, AXE or AXE-type), consider using it to create a clean opening after the first target dies.

Reward and next step

Beating REAPER & SHADE can grant their Ghost Summon according to community reports; the full roster is still being verified and this page will update once structured capture confirms it. The next fight after them is DOSEI THE GIANT CLAW — treat REAPER & SHADE as the test of target separation before DOSEI tests raw parry execution.
