Perfect parries fill enemy posture fast. Imperfect blocks cost you more.

Dinoblade's combat revolves around timing-based defense. Perfect deflects restore stamina and Resonance while accelerating enemy posture breaks. Red-glint attacks cannot be blocked but can be parried — with a severe penalty for mistiming. The developer states roughly 95% of previously unblockable attacks were made deflectable. This guide covers timing fundamentals, practice drills and YouTube video references for visual learners.

Official:Developer interview confirms 95% of attacks are now deflectable.
Hands-on notes:Demo route and boss fights confirm timing windows and red-glint rules.
Release-day check:Exact frame data and per-boss timing tables still need structured capture.

Deflect vs Block: the stamina economy

Blocking consumes stamina. Deflecting restores both stamina and Resonance. This is the core economy: if you're running out of stamina, you're blocking too much. Switch to deflects. Perfect deflects also fill enemy posture faster, leading to devastating Instinct Counter windows when the Resolve Bar maxes out.

  • Block: costs stamina, reduces damage, safe but inefficient.
  • Deflect: restores stamina + Resonance, requires timing, fills posture faster.
  • Red-glint attacks: cannot be blocked, must be parried or dodged.
  • Rule of thumb: if you die to stamina starvation, you blocked too much.

Red-glint attacks: the timing test

The developer states red-glint attacks cannot be blocked but can be parried, with a severe penalty for mistiming. The same interview says roughly 95% of attacks previously treated as unblockable were made deflectable. Treat that percentage as a developer statement — not a verified move-by-move list. Red-glint attacks appear in boss fights (KIRA, AXE, KASEI) and some regular enemy encounters.

  • Red-glint visual: weapon glows red during wind-up.
  • Cannot block: attempting to block will fail and leave you vulnerable.
  • Can parry: requires precise timing; mistiming = severe penalty.
  • Can dodge: roll away if you can't commit to the parry window.
  • Demo tutorial: red-glint lesson appears in Part 2 before AXE fight.

Instinct Counter: the reward for perfect defense

When a boss's Resolve Bar (under the HP bar) maxes out, a clean deflect triggers a bone-shattering Instinct Counter. This is the high-reward payoff for perfect timing. Dealing damage and perfect parries build the Resolve Bar faster. The counter is not automatic — you must still land the deflect at the right moment when the bar is full.

Practice drills

  • Drill 1: Fight one regular enemy. Block only. Note how fast stamina drains.
  • Drill 2: Same enemy. Deflect only. Note stamina regeneration and posture damage.
  • Drill 3: Red-glint enemy. Practice dodging instead of parrying. Note safety margin.
  • Drill 4: Boss fight. Watch full attack sequence before committing to parry. Note timing window.
  • Drill 5: Instinct Counter. Build Resolve Bar with damage + perfect parries, then land final deflect.
